Mackenzie is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Certified Grief Counseling Specialist driven to help individuals find their life worth living. Her inspiration to guide others through their journey is enhanced by six years of experience in working with individuals and groups in various settings. Mackenzie’s specialties include suicidality, suicide prevention, grief, and complicated grief. She is passionate about raising awareness of suicide prevention and advocating for changes in the way we treat those who experience suicidal thoughts. Mackenzie has focused her training on the assessment, intervention, and treatment of acute and chronic suicidality. She is a member of the American Association of Suicidology, the nation’s sole membership organization for suicide prevention, which hosts a yearly conference presenting the latest research, applications, and outcomes from the field of suicide prevention. She is a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist (CGCS) with a focus in complicated grief treatment. Additionally, Mackenzie specializes in OCD and will be pursuing additional training in Exposure and Response Prevention Training (ERP). Mackenzie is the dog mom to our therapy dog, Cota. They plan to continue animal assisted therapy training over the next few years as their training is never done. Mackenzie completed her DBT training by Psychwire in 2019.
Mackenzie received her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill in 2012. Following this, Mackenzie earned her Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University Graduate School. After completing her internship in community mental health, Mackenzie facilitated teen and adult DBT groups, conducting outpatient therapy, and working as a community support therapist with high-needs individuals and those in crisis. Mackenzie’ believes that therapy was never meant to be a “one size fits all” practice, but rather tailored to one’s needs at this moment. She adapts her approach utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Positive Psychology, Motivational Interviewing, and skills/interventions learned throughout her trainings.
