Marnita Patton, MA, ATR, CCBT, CGT, CDP, Art Therapist at Pasadena Villa Orlando, led residents on an Art Adventure involving charger plates. Charger plates are large plates used during full course dinners and are intended to make beautiful accents at special events. Charger plates have actually been around since the 19th century. This Creative Craft project is easy to do and certainly has our residents feeling good about themselves and their ability to create something pleasing and attractive. The plates made from the activity are so elegant, they can most certainly be given as gifts!
Each resident had the opportunity to use the charger plate of their choice, in bright shimmery colors. Tissue paper was torn and then applied to the plate with Mod Podge by residents. Once a final coat of Mod Podge was applied for a finished look, wooden words were selected and painted with a complementary color. Finally, words were adhered to the plate. When all of the chargers were finished, each resident received an easel to display their unique and beautiful creations.
