For over 25 years Pasadena Villa has enjoyed a partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in providing a strong voice that makes a difference for those suffering from a mental illness and their families.
Recently, Pasadena Villa joined with NAMI for the NAMI Walks Greater Orlando, a 5K that raises money to fight the stigmas associated with mental illness and families that need money to pay for mental health treatment. With over 80 walks that have already taken place in 2017, this event celebrated its 15th Anniversary and took place at Cranes Roost Park in Altamonte Springs. NAMI Walks raised over $11 million in 2016 to provide additional support and programs for families and those suffering from a mental illness.
Pasadena Villa has seen great success helping the families of our patients integrate into the NAMI Family-to-Family program. The NAMI family program is a free, 12-session educational program designed to help families, friends, and caregivers of those living with a mental illness. This evidenced-based program has been designed to improve the coping and problem-solving skills of those closest to an individual struggling with a mental health condition.
The NAMI Family-to-Family program is taught by NAMI-trained family members who were once struggling with the same issues as the families in the program. Not only does the program include presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises, but it also provides critical information and strategies to assist in taking care of a loved one with a mental condition.
In a group setting, the program provides a mutual support and a positive impact from people who understand the situation. Families learn how to manage crisis’, solve problems, develop confidence, find support groups, find current treatments and therapies, and learn how mental illness impacts the entire family and how to cope with the difficulties.
Pasadena Villa has a co-ed residential treatment facility located in Orlando, Florida and a second residential location in Sevierville, Tennessee as well as outpatient services in Raleigh, North Carolina. Our experienced staff provides individualized psychiatric and psychotherapeutic care for adults with complex psychiatric disorders such as depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, young adults on the Autism Spectrum, and co-occurring substance use or addiction.
At Pasadena Villa, we know that family involvement in treatment is essential to successful treatment outcomes and we value the opinions of family members. Every family is different, which is why we tailor our family therapy and support to the unique needs of every family. For some, NAMI’s Family-to-Family program is just what they need. The combination of education and support provides comfort in knowing they are not alone in the journey to recovery for their loved one.
