The winter holiday season, including New Years, Christmas, Hanukkah, and Thanksgiving, is an emotionally charged time of year. Unfortunately for many people, those emotions include sadness, loneliness, and anxiety. It’s easy for the season to take its toll on mental health, even for those who do not suffer from a mental illness. Headaches, excessive drinking, overeating, arguments, and insomnia are common consequences of holiday stress.

Many mental health therapists believe  symptoms of anxiety and depression worsen this time of year because people are unable to say “no” to all of the extra demands on their time, finances, and energy. The Mayo Clinic can help you take control of the holidays with this set of tips to prevent holiday stress and depression.

The Villa Orlando and Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge are adult intensive psychiatric residential treatment centers for clients with serious mental illnesses. We also provide other individualized therapy programs, step-down residential programs, and less intensive mental health services, such as Community Residential Homes, Supportive Housing, Day Treatment Programs and Life Skills training. Pasadena Villa’s Outpatient Center in Raleigh, North Carolina offers partial hospitalization (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (PHP). If you or someone you know may need mental health services, please complete our contact form or call us at 407-574-5190 for more information.
