Often those suffering from mental illness have difficulty maintaining their recommended drug therapy. This happens for several reasons: severe, unpleasant side effects; lack of understanding about the benefits of medication; lack of acceptance of the psychiatric diagnosis; and/or personal and societal stigma associated with mental illness and psychiatric drugs.
Those with mental illness may not understand that psychotherapeutic medications may make other kinds of treatment more effective. While these medications do not cure mental illness, in many cases they help patients function despite difficulty coping and ongoing mental pain and distress.
A significant benefit of a residential treatment program such as Pasadena Villa is the careful medication management residents receive. In addition to receiving their medication as prescribed, residents benefit from having access to knowledgeable therapists and our on-staff psychiatrist to answer questions and provided disease and medication education.
And through our Social Integration Model, residents learn how to function in the real world, including taking responsibility for their own care and taking medications as prescribed.
The Villa Orlando and Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge are adult intensive psychiatric residential treatment centers for clients with serious mental illnesses. We also provide other individualized therapy programs, step-down residential programs, and less intensive mental health services, such as Community Residential Homes, Supportive Housing, Day Treatment Programs and Life Skills training. Pasadena Villa’s Outpatient Center in Raleigh, North Carolina offers partial hospitalization (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (PHP).
