Marnita Patton, MA, ATR, CCBT, CGT, CDP, Art Therapist at Pasadena Villa Orlando, led residents on a fun art activity involving elves. This adorable project was completed last week and it provided the opportunity to make simple choices in color and design. Residents utilized motor skills, patience and problem solving in painting, constructing and applying washi tape highlights. Perhaps the most important aspect of the activity was the positive feelings about themselves and having the ability to create a craft that could be given as a gift. The results also included a yummy treat of M&M’s (or other candies), all in a very appropriate serving size! Need more elf crafting ideas to share with the family? Pasadena Villa programs set out to create a unique environment with a comforting and therapeutic atmosphere. We do things that a normal family would do in real life. Even meal time is a part of the therapeutic process with staff and residents, modeling and learning appropriate social and communication skills, this even includes fun crafting activities. Our mental health professionals work directly in the milieu with our residents. They observe residents in real situations and intervenes, on the spot and in the moment, both inside our facilities and out in the community. These observations are then incorporated into the resident’s ongoing treatment plan.
Pasadena Villa Residents have the freedom to follow many familiar family traditions and activities, while applying newly acquired treatment concepts to their everyday lives. Community recreational, social and life skills activities with our professional staff form the core treatment interventions in all of our programs. Traditional individual, group, family and expressive arts therapies are also utilized as a complement to our many social integration therapeutic interventions. Pasadena Villa Orlando and Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge are adult intensive psychiatric residential treatment centers for clients with serious mental illnesses. We also provide other less intensive mental health services, such as Life Skills training at our Transitional Living and Learning Center and also provide other individualized therapy programs. Pasadena Villa’s outpatient center is located in Raleigh, North Carolina and offers partial hospitalization (PHP) as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP). If you or someone you know may need counseling on mental health services, please fill out our contact form or call us at 877-845-5235 for more information. As one of the very first programs in the country to base its treatment upon Social Integration, our mental health facilities offer help through individualized therapy and group residential programs with a focus towards achieving more independent living.
