Anxiety Disorders

Anxiety disorders are the most common psychiatric illness affecting children and adults. Anxiety disorders may develop from a complex set of risk factors, including genetics, brain chemistry, personality and life events. An estimated 40 million American adults suffer from Anxiety Disorders.

Anxiety Disorders are characterized as follows: Generalized Anxiety Disorders; Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder; Panic Disorder; Social Anxiety Disorder (Social Phobia); specific Phobias.

Anxiety Disorders are highly treatable with psychosocial therapies, medication, or both. Psychosocial treatments used in the treatment of anxiety disorders include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), exposure therapy, anxiety management and relaxation therapies, and psychotherapy. Medications used to treat Anxiety Disorders include selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), trycyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, beta blockers and monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).

The Villa Orlando and Pasadena Villa’s Smoky Mountain Lodge are adult intensive psychiatric residential treatment centers for clients with serious mental illnesses. We also provide other individualized therapy programs, step-down residential programs, and less intensive mental health services, such as Community Residential Homes, Supportive Housing, Day Treatment Programs and Life Skills training. Pasadena Villa’s Outpatient Center in Raleigh, North Carolina offers partial hospitalization (PHP) and an intensive outpatient program (PHP).
