Laura Sims, CTRS – Recreational Therapist
Laura received her Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Southern Mississippi. She has experience as a Recreational Therapist specializing in physical rehabilitation for people who have sustained traumatic brain Injuries. Her focus is on providing purposeful recreational activities and promoting social reintegration through recreation-based outings.
Laura worked as a Therapeutic Recreation Intern in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada where she assisted individuals who acquired or sustained traumatic brain injuries and spinal cord injuries. Laura has also volunteered numerous hours in community-based centers for at-risk youth, mental health facilities for children and adolescents and senior adult assisted living facilities. Additionally, she has collected recreational information for the National Forest Service throughout Mississippi from on-site interviews with visitors participating in recreational activities at the USFS National Forests. Laura is a member of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA) and the Mississippi Recreation and Parks Association (MRPA).
