Daily Life at Pasadena Villa

Daily life at Pasadena Villa revolves around an activities-based therapeutic community, where social support and therapies are utilized to enhance individual functioning and improve day-to-day life. Our staff implements a program philosophy based on preserving the individual dignity and confidentiality of our residents, recognizing and responding to individual needs, and celebrating the many victories, both large and small, in the lives of our residents.

Residents have a primary therapist who provides individual and family therapies and is the primary contact during treatment. Individual therapy is at times provided in traditional therapeutic sessions, but is most often provided throughout the day by our clinicians in brief therapeutic interventions. As our team identifies opportunities for personal growth or insight, brief individual therapy occurs.

Therapeutic groups are provided by all of our therapists throughout the week, so all residents have interaction with and exposure to all of our clinicians. Residents have weekly visits with the attending psychiatrist who collaborates with our treatment team on not only medical issues, but on all aspects of treatment.

Pet AssistTeddy and Pet-Assisted Therapy

Teddy, the Villa feline, is far more than a pet; he is the catalyst of our animal-assisted therapy. Teddy is a companion to our residents and he allows our residents to shift the focus from themselves and their own needs to another living being. Since Teddy's body language is easier to read than the complex body language of people, he benefits our residents with social deficits. Our residents respond to Teddy's cues, and this increases their ability to socialize within our community. Teddy relaxes our residents, provides comfort and affection, and engages them in play and frivolity, often when residents are unable to do this with their own family and peers.

Art Therapy

Expressive Arts Therapy

Art Therapy is the therapeutic use of art materials for self-expression and reflection. It is based on the belief that the creative process involved in artistic self-expression helps people to resolve conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, reduce stress, increase self-esteem and self-awareness, and achieve insight. During the course of treatment, residents will engage in various expressive arts groups and activities.

Adjunctive Therapy

Our Adjunctive Therapy Coordinator implements a comprehensive recreational and activities program designed around social integration, improved communication, personal wellness, enhanced self-confidence, personal challenge and life skills development.
